Review of Becket (1964) by Giampaolo B — 16 Nov 2007
The film is an interesting evocation of an important historical juncture. While most historical epics try to emphasize their importance with grandiose and often cheesy sentiment, Becket takes a different route and lets its themes come through with the performances by Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole. This was the first time these two giants had been filmed opposite one another. Today it can be compared to the popular pairing of Pacino and De Niro. But Becket brings these two together in a way that utilizes their personal exploits to benefit the relationship between characters in the film. The film retains its focus and lets both actors 'work their magic'.
Awesomely gay as well.
