Review of Becket (1964) by Marissa B — 18 Jun 2008
Though Lion in Winter will always be the most masterful depiction of Henry II, this is a well-crafted movie. Peter O'Toole is unquestionably a master actor - he steals the screen, and his performance is breath-taking.
The scenery is not that impressive but the use of color makes up for it. Not one of the greatest movies ever made, but well worth seeing for Peter O'Toole alone. It is rare that an actor has the opportunity to play the same monarch in two outstanding movies (Helen Mirren is the only other I can think of), but this is an actor worthy of that honor.
