Review of Beauty and the Beast (2017) by Harvey R — 26 May 2017
So, Ive talked a lot of smack about this movie. Thus, I'll start with the good.
The famous dance scene is done wonderfully. Though I think Emma Watson is a mediocre actress, she is an elegant woman. Combined with state of the art CGI for the Beast and production design of the ballroom, the scene will carry on in memory for a good time to come.
The beast was entertaining. His role was well developed and he was very relatable and not boring.
However, the same cannot be said for Belle. "Bon Voyage," says a French villager to which Belle responds, "Bye." Ugh, there it was, the Brit playing a French woman.
But aside my opinions of miscasting, the movie just wasnt memorable or special. Beauty and the Beast reminded me of Man of Steel because I can describe it with the same four words:
A Waste of Potential.
My consensus: 1.5/4.
