Review of Beautiful Kate (2009) by Jennifer C — 01 Feb 2010
I'm not sure why, as Australian film makers, we're so compelled to portray our lives to the rest of the world as miserable. This film is no exception. Broken relationships and lives. Struggling to keep things interesting in the barren desert that is our outback.
We have such a beautiful country; it's amazing we're too busy caught up in conflict with each other to notice. Thank god for Rachel Griffiths character who is a glimmer of hope in this depressed, messed up family.
The film could have done without Maeve Dermody's Toni though who seems to be put in there just to piss everyone, including the audience, off. I think even 12 year old boys would have trouble being wooed by her.
.. umm... charms.
