Review of Beautiful Girls (1996) by Amie L — 08 Nov 2005

[font=Tahoma][font=Trebuchet MS][[b]Short Thought:[/b] Often amusing and certainly engaging, with an excellent cast, but it also has no where at all to go and is too obsessed with sex. The male characters are more focused on than the girls of the title, and the film seems to switch between admiring and shaking it's head at the men, except Timothy Hutton, who is excellent as the man who returns to his small-town birthplace to catch up with family and friends, who've all gone nowhere. The highlight of the film is certainly Hutton's interaction with the wise-beyond-her-years Natalie Portman, who's at her best here. Enjoyable, but missable.].
