Review of Beautiful Girls (1996) by Don S — 10 Jul 2011
The title of this movie sums it up fairly well: beautiful girls and the men who love them. This is a well written tale of the insecurities of both sexes, played out through a group of friends who have known each other since high school. The backdrop is a small town and a ten year high school reunion (that really plays very little into the plot). Timothy Hutton gives a fabulous performance, as does Matt Dillon. Natalie Portman steals the show as Hutton's 13 year old love interest - you'll have to watch to understand, nothing disgusting is going on... I'm not a fan of O'Donnell's nasal tone delivery, but it is not too much of a downer here since she does not have a major role. A movie about real feelings from characters who are true to life and mostly likable. Very good movie that is well worth your time.
