Review of Beautiful Creatures (2013) by Don H — 12 Nov 2013
Okay, first off, I have read all the books in this series, at first reluctantly, then I got drawn in just like I did with twilight. I was interested to see how this film would turn out, for I really enjoyed the book when I was finished with it.
With a couple of big name stars, I really thought it would be better....hold on...not done with that thought yet. I was disapointed with the movie for one reason, (and I believe this to be why it did poorly at the box office), because unlike Twilight movies, that followed the books to a tee, this movie deleated some characters and merged some of those characters they deleted into some of the ones they kept.
So, right from the get go, I was disappointed as I watched the film. The main characters of Ethan and Lena were still strong, and Alden as Ethen did a great job, but I was more impressed with Lenas character played by Alice Englert.
She did such a grat job in the role, that now when I think of the character I see her face in my mind, her portrayl was phenomonal!! Jeremy Irons can do no wrong as an actor in my eyes, and was fantastic.
But the surprise to me was Emma Thompson, who again, played the role so well, she owns it. Now, back to my thoughts on how I thought it would be better. I have found that the more times I view this movie, the more things I pick up on that I missed the first time I watched it, due to my initial disappointment.
My advice, go back and view it again, this time with an open mind, and enjoy it for what it is, a work of fiction/fantasy, and let yourself enjoy it on that level...for the books will always be there.
