Review of Beautiful Boy (2018) by David O — 19 Jan 2019
Great film. Very powerful yet doesn't rely on cheap techniques of emotional manipulation - i.e. It's not a big tear jerker - yet you feel love and empathy for all involved in this horrendous, hopeless situation.
Timothee Chalamet is an actor way beyond his years, as we have already seen in 'Call me by your name.'. Steve Carrell, so used to seeing him in comedy roles, he fits perfectly into this straight role of a loving dad, who continues to fight to save his son no matter how hopeless the situation.
The support actors Maura Tierney and Amy Ryan too play very convincing roles. As too do the child actors who complete a holistic and realistic home setting.
