Review of Beautiful Boy (2018) by Dawdlingpoet — 22 Nov 2021

This is a heart wrenching watch. I feel like it should be shown to teenagers to put them off taking illegal drugs, as it depicts the helplessness that parents feel as they watch their adolescent child struggle and get worse and worse as their drug addiction takes a firmer grip on them.

It shows heavy drug use, including needle injections and I felt Steve Carell did very well in playing the father, David. His performance really made the film, I felt, although Timothee Chalamet, who plays Nic Sheff, also does a good job in his role.

This is a tough watch in places but it handles the theme well and is very much a decent film that I'd recommend.
