Review of Beautiful Boy (2018) by Sidney T — 04 Nov 2018
Timothee Chalamet's performance was nuanced and real to the experience of many young addicts. I wish we had gotten to see more of his recovery story, but I know this was about David.
I was disappointed in Steve Carell's performance. There are a few scenes where I would expect a parent this involved with their dying child to be emotive -- Carell's facial expression stays the same during every scene of the movie, no matter what's happening. With that kind of stale acting juxtaposed with Timothee's incredibly emotional performance ... I was just let down.
The ending is realistic, don't go in hoping for "and then he never used again and his life was perfect!". Awesome movie overall!!
