The little girl who played 'Hushpuppy' is, indeed, a charmer and a cutie. However, to me, watching extremely poor, alcoholic and abusive people on the bayou is not my cup of tea. I thought it extremely depressing, degrading to women (the whore house scenes) and the child abuse, though mild, was very troublesome to me.
I would not recommend this film to any friend or relative, I didn't enjoy it. It was more like 'enduring it.'.
