Review of Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) by Alexander N — 10 Aug 2013
Really an amazing ride. I don't think it hit a sour note. It's rare for any work of fiction to get so convincingly into the mind of a child, and bring you there as an adult. This movie completely succeeds in doing that.
I saw this in a double feature with Moonrise Kingdom - an abjectly failed attempt at the same thing - drawing this movie's great originality into sharp relief. Unlike Wes Anderson, I think Benh Zeitlin has a great deal more to show us.
