Review of Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) by Andy F — 30 Jan 2014
It's very easy to get over sentimental about this film and look at it through rose tinted glasses. Hence the fact that it is very overrated here on RT. Undoubtedly it is a captivating portrayal of extreme poverty and the humanity of forgotten people.
It is beautifully shot and the film drifts along with a dream like quality. However the fantasy sequences are ludicrous and I wasn't close to a tear in my eye at the climax. A good film yes, but far from a great one.
