Review of Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) by Matt C — 20 Apr 2017
I can respect what the filmmakers tried but some parts didn't work. Don't get me wrong, some parts worked really well, but other parts, not so much. There was a bit towards the end that took away the quasi-realism and had an out-of-context Life of Pi-esque moment which just had me shrugging.
The main girl was astonishing and truly amazing, especially given her age and her bits of narration were very good and portrayed child-like wonder well. The camera work... Ugh. I understand what they were going for with the shaky-cam, given that it's from the perspective of a little girl, but it became cringe-worthy so quickly and just annoyed me.
6.6/10, okay, average, etc.
