Review of Beasts of No Nation (2015) by Gareth W — 11 Oct 2015
Is it possible to give six stars? From Elba to the actors playing the African child soldiers from the emotional intensity of getting to know the characters from the village to the war to the brutalisation that follows.
Nothing is spared in this the most unflinching portrayal of war I think I have ever seen. Yet it's not without depth or heart, death but hope. It's getting a very limited release and then straight unto Net flicks.
Nothing Holywood has done comes close, not even Hotel Rwanda or The Dogs of War. Watch it if you dare.
