Review of Beasts of No Nation (2015) by David B — 22 Jan 2016
Let's get one thing straight: this movie deserves 5 stars. It demands 5 stars. So David, why the hell am I seeing a 4 rating up there!? The acting is phenomenal and perhaps the best I've seen in a long time.
The visuals were far too amazing for my plain basement flat screen TV. So, why the snub? The answer is simple, this is not an enjoyable film. There are scenes in this movie that will stay with you long after the final credits, and play in your mind like a distorted X rated charity infomercial that you can't hit the 'power' button on.
And that's exactly what Netflix wanted. As paradoxical as it sounds, I will not recommend this movie to anyone, but I believe everyone needs to watch it. I normally make a closing joke about a points based system here, but I simply find that wrong for a movie of this content.
4 out of 5.
