Review of Beasts of No Nation (2015) by Ajytswkyutask57Rts B — 04 Apr 2016
The first full feature-length movie produced and streamed by Netflix had a lot to live up to, as the film & TV streaming srvice has become well known for the high quality of their self-produced content (including House Of Cards, Marvel's Daredevil, Orange Is The New Black, Master Of None & Bojack Horseman).
This movie however, didn't only live up to my expectations, it exceeded them. This movie is an utterly gut wrenching ride that leaves you thinking it for a very long time. The movie follows the life of a young West African boy named Agu, who is inscripted as a child soldier into a mercenary unit led by the sadistic Commandant.
This movie contains acting that as so good, it should've been considered a crime that neither Abraham nor Idris where nominated for an oscar, as Idris Elba shines in possibly his greatest performance yet, and it is incredibly hard to believe that this is the only movie Abraham Attah has ever acted in.
This movie is a must watch for anyone as it is both humbling and an extreme reality check on how lucky we are to live in such a peaceful area.
