Review of Beaches (1988) by Justin K — 20 Feb 2008
Do you like to laugh? I SAID... Do you like to laugh? Then, my friend, spit the Cornflakes out of your mouth and hold on to your sides... they just might split! Beaches shows why TV Quick magazine voted Bette Midler the best new comic performance of 1963.
This movie is a laugh riot. I was smiling from beginning to end. It couldn't have been any funnier if it had starred Mr. Bean, the cast from the Ewok Adventure movies, and had been written by the Zucker Brothers.
When the dark haired one pretended to die to make the fat one look after her kid I almost pee'd myself! What a hoot! She had no idea! SHE RAISED HER KID! I think my tape ran out before the wacky finale where the fat ginger one finds out years later that the dark haired one was really still alive, and was dressed up as their nanny or something, or hiding as a nun.
That's the same movie, right? Anyway, I give Beaches 5 laugh until you literally PUKE's out of 5.
