Review of Beaches (1988) by Liz K — 20 May 2012
Five stars because there's nothing I would change about it, even though I know it is THE cliche chick flick and I'm not supposed to like it. So much better than the book. This movie actually scared me when I first saw it as a small child because I cried so hard and so long and didn't know yet that movies could do that.
After about a decade I tried it again as I had always remembered loving the characters and their friendship, and by then I was able to enjoy the bitter-sweetness of it all.
