Not only is is an ode to all things cinema, Gondry's film essentially sums up everything he's about as an artist, more so than "better" movies like ETERNAL SUNSHINE, as BE KIND REWIND is practically a mission statement, a discussion of the construction of pop culture that movies create around us and how they become important like the legends of the old neighborhood we protect from demolition, as well as the importance of the human touch in art.
