Review of Be Kind Rewind (2008) by Faisal A — 19 Jun 2013
Such an underrated film, Be Kind Rewind is truly a great film. While its story may be out there at the beginning to set everything up, it works well as it progresses. The story includes two guys working at a VHS rental store where all the tapes have been erased, in a last second decision they decide to make the films themselves, even if it barely resembles the original film at the slightest. The idea is very creative and has great imagination. Jack Black and Mos Def have great chemistry on set when working on these films and the supporting cast is great as well. Be Kind Rewind parodies many films in the right way, rather than having a cluster fuck of random scenes like a modern spoof movie would. In all honesty the films they remake resembles that film very well, just very cheap looking and works so well.
The writing and direction from Michael Gondry is very great and works very well throughout the film. The story and all its subplots play out very well and every character is developed very well. Be Kind Rewind is one of the most enjoyable and underrated films I've ever come across and thinks it needs to be seen. The idea and story the film gives is great and is one of the most highly imaginative films of the 2000s.
