Review of Be Kind Rewind (2008) by Jon C — 22 Feb 2018
An average effort but adorable for future filmmakers in making their own home movies.
Jack Black and Mos Def are in a less-frivolous neighborhood filled with people who stay since they can't go anywhere else.
It's also the home of famous musician Fats Waller.
After getting hit with magnetism all the VHS tapes in their store get erased and in order to keep the business running they decide to remake famous movies on their own.
They use their own video camera to shorten them down to 20 mins.
Believe it or not the citizens get more enjoyment out of their versions.
Next to Jack Black and Mos Def are Danny Glover who's worried about the store being demolished, their neighbor Mia Farrow, and newcomer Melonie Diaz who believes in their passion.
The film has a really good heart despite it being rental material.
And it's funny too considering that when this came out VHS tapes discontinued back in 2005.
But people can still have a passion for things old and authentic.
Not too many laughs but the idea is cute and you can see how others can aspire to pick up a career in filmmaking in their own way.
Not too big, not too small but will make you feel nostalgic for cinema's influence.
