Review of Baywatch (2017) by Bradley J — 05 Sep 2017
Baywatch is swimming with wholly unlikable characters with over-the-top personalities. Any relatable or funny material is immediately drowned by the poor script and iffy performances from the cast. Beyond the pretty faces the characters radiate one-dimensional ego and misogyny.
There are actual several times when characters have to cushion a highly sexist remark with "no offense". It feels like a slap in the face to our attempted progression in media. The film positions itself as both comedy and thriller, however is neither enough of either to truly satisfy.
Baywatch is overall a mess. A summer flick that doesn't even have entertaining action scenes or a plot that separates from the typical drug smuggling antics, Baywatch is a chore to sit through. Rating: 35.
