Review of Baywatch (2017) by Chris F — 28 May 2017
Baywatch is about as unfunny as the trailers made it out to be. The cast tries, but it can't save the movie. Dwayne Johnson is is incredibly likable, and Zac Efron makes a game effort. If they were in a different movie with a different script, the movie could've been successful.
All of the women, especially Alexandra Daddario, aren't given enough character development or laughs to shine. There is one character, played by Jon Bass, that is incredibly annoying. A lot of the so called "jokes" involve this character, but he isn't funny.
Somehow, the funniest jokes are in the trailer. And the trailer isn't even that funny. The script is absolutely terrible. The jokes don't land at all. There are many gags that aren't funny that go on for too long.
The action isn't even exciting. The CGI, especially in the fire scene, is horrendous. The plot is also generic. Priyanka Chopra is wasted as the generic villain. Overall, I didn't expect much from a movie based on the show Baywatch.
But the movie just isn't funny. So many gags run for too long, and the action isn't even exciting. The film doesn't know what it wants to be, a spoof or an action movie. It fails at both.
