Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Mark F — 02 Nov 2007
A classic Soviet agit-pop film from the silent era that is even now extremely influencial. The famous Odessa steps masacre scene with the panned view of a pram rolling down has been much imitated eg. in The Untouchables.
The photography was revolutionary in its time by introducing close-up character studies as opposed to straight narrative shots of battlescenes and is still highly powerful.
