Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Rob W — 14 Nov 2007
ClassiC Soviet Silent cinema. A propagandist film and uses montage to deliberately send across the message that bolshevik revolution was necessary. Director Eisenstein was a pioneer of cinema language and that his use of editing told the story; meaning multiple images put together gave you a message, not the images themselves.
An system of storytelling almost abandoned in contemporary cinema. The Odessa Sequence is one of the most talked about scenes in history. You can even see its homage in The Untouchables during the train station scene.
