Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Deena O — 01 Jun 2008
When people review this film all they want to talk about is what they heard from some professor or IMDb entry. Watch it with your own eyes and forget what you read in a book or had to memorize for a test. When you do that, it's much more powerful.
I took a film class and we watched the Odessa Staircase portion of the film and I was told that I was supposed to appreciate the editing and I was told that it was such a powerful moment in the film that should give me goosebumps. I felt nothing and brushed it aside as just being elitist. I was half right. The smug analysis detracts from the fact that this is an amazing work of art as a whole product. Each frame is a work of art in itself.
