Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Patrick B — 22 Dec 2009
I'm not a big fan of silent films. I find that most of them just sort of drag along, and criticize me all you want for this, but I need dialogue and good acting to keep me going. While this one certainly does drag in parts, I admire the hell out of it, because even 84 years later, there are scenes in this movie that are still shocking.
The cover of this film is a picture of the best scene where a little boy is massacred in cold blood by Cossack troops and a mother cries in grief as she holds him in his arms. Powerful stuff!
