Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Bob V — 04 Nov 2010
Surprisingly effective, sweeping film from the mute era. Certain scenes from this historically wildly inaccurate propaganda film are so well-known and remembered that they are actually accepted as history (cf The Odessa stairs massacre, which is completely fictional).
One can understand why: the powerful images, the trampling of innocence by robotic uniformed monsters, the ultraviolent vibes, and the compelling instrumental score all serve to almost make you wish it had actually happened so you can wallow in your righteous indignation.
