Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Steven G — 08 Jun 2012
Undeniably breathtaking [in an almost too literal manner], Sergei M. Eisentein's pivotal masterpiece is quite simply an exhilarating experience from start to finish. Even with it's more dated elements [the Russian militaristic propaganda for one], the film never loses it's power over the audience.
Much of this is due to Eisentein's unsparing approach to the material, Edmund Meisel's pulse racing score, and the benchmark quick editing style for which the film has become renowned. If film is thought primarily as a medium of sight and sound, I cannot think of one greater than Battleship Potemkin.
