Review of Battleship Potemkin (1925) by Terry W — 03 May 2012
In this day and age, many people find it difficult to be entertained by a silent film. This is why, if any, they will watch the energetic, in-your-face comedies of Chaplin or Keaton. 'The Battleship Potemkin' is far from a comedy, but you don't have to go in with an open mind or anything specific like that.
It's a mind-blowing film for it's time, with powerful moments such as the ship's shooting squad refusing to execute the mutinying men, and the infamous Odessa steps sequence. Sergei Eisenstein's photography and style of editing are quite impressive even by today's standards, and it tells a shocking, dramatic and interesting story.
