Considering this film is based on a boardgames they had to come up with an original story line that would work. now I love so called popcorn films where you just switch off and watch a film and enjoy it, this is a classic popcorn film.
the special effects are awesome, explosions, huge ships and alien's, what more do you want. The acting is not at all bad either, This is independence day beefed up and without the crap acting and pro-americanism that we usually get.
All in all this is a really enjoyable film that's worth a watch.
