Review of Battleship (2012) by Durell B — 18 Sep 2013
Given the task of translating a board game into a full feature length film is no easy task. You're taking a property that has no cinematic value; therefore creating your own idea of how this world works.
Peter Berg, the director had a budget that dwarfed the original Harry Potter and could have made a beautifully crafted military film but instead he opted for an alien invasion. In a nutshell, Transformers 3.
5: Rise of the Navy Ships. What should have been America going to war with another country and having amazing battle dialogue between high ranking officials gets turned into watered down alien trite. Lazy Hollywood trash with a bland script.
No originality, no guts to be different, no clue how much they take audiences for granted. As long as we continue to shed out dollars for this mess, we as an audience will never get new ideas. This film is precisely the reason we have seven Saw films and twenty remakes, sequels, adaptations and remakes every year.
Expect more, not average.
