Review of Battlefield Earth (2000) by Jeremy K — 15 Oct 2010
Let me start by saying: Yes, this is a bad movie, a very bad movie, one of the worst ones of the last decade. But if you give it a watch and appreciate what it is, there is a degree of watchability about it.
At times it has a very epic feel to it, and the performances are sometimes fun. But there's just way too much about this to call it a good movie. The plot's confusing, the camera angles are weird, the wipe transitions are bound to drive you crazy, and there's enough ham in the acting for a family dinner on Easter.
But it's still fun to watch at times. John Travolta and Forest Whitaker have some humorous scenes together. You can also tell the filmmakers were really trying with this movie. Travolta will always defend this film, and I will say he has a decent reason to.
But regardless, it's still a bad, dumb movie. However, it's still worth watching with all of its flaws.
