Initially I commenced watching this film with a negative mindset and frankly shocked that 9th graders will be forced to kill each other in order to survive a cruel elimination game during an economic collapse of major proportions.

The world has basically gone to chaos, with juvenile delinquency sky high. So the government selects a 9th grade class which is sent to a remote island, given weapons and other survival gear. The mission is to destroy everyone else in three days until one person remains standing.

When having to choose between a novel or the film I always go for the motion picture because the characters, background, emotions become alive and music is very important in this film, with several classical pieces playing in the background as the unwilling participants get killed.

Adding a strange sensation of calmness and serenity. A total of 42 students battled to the death, so who wins? You have to watch this one but allegations that Hunger Games stole Battle Royale plot have surfaced and it may be true.

During this controlled environment, and fight for survival, friendships will be tested, concealed loves will be disclosed- I felt so sad during one scene where a boy startles a girl and she shot him. As he dies near her, he confessed her love to her.

He loved her for quite some time. Her reply was WHY didn't you tell me? Apparently he never spoke to her, never disclosed his love for her which was a big mistake. This film teaches many things, among them to be honest with your feelings, practice teamwork, never give up and fight with honor.

These kids had a rude awakening and had to learn quickly how to survive in a cruel world. BRAVO to all involved and Mr. Fukasaku (director) changed my feelings about this movie. Great one and recommended!
