As artistic as it is visceral, Battle Royale was the very peak of its subgenre. Anyone who finds the premise interesting and isn't scared off by a little brutality will find a thrilling and enjoyable experience.
There may be more recent films that closely follow this movie's premise, but accept no substitutions or watered down alternatives - Battle Royale is the real deal.
