Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Stephen S — 09 Feb 2013
I've wanted to see this for some time but hadn't gotten around to it. Then Hunger Games came out and sounded suspiciously the same to me so I figured I'd better get around to it now.
This is a movie that never lets you settle down, moving between satire and splatter, offering moments that will make the most hardened viewer cringe and snatches of quiet melancholy that will haunt you. I quite enjoyed it for all it's tongue in cheek humour. The horrors are alien and degrading, the sympathetic characters rail against the adult system that forces them to act the worst part of youths rebel society.
