Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Julian B — 20 Apr 2013
Before there was Hunger Games, there was Battle Royale. The film takes advantage of its premise in a really over-the-top and gory way. This is an outrageous ways to die and respond to them galore. The one thing however, is the life-or-death sequences were interesting and really good.
The plot was a bit unoriginal and I felt it could have taken advantage of its premise. The plot was alright but the emotional content was not always there. Sometimes it felt like another slasher gone wild.
Ultimately, its packing with violence that many people may not have see before. However, there's that tangible to me in most of the film. Towards the end, it does. Overall a good film maybe just not for me.
