Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Frank C — 23 May 2013
Though I'd seen the movie a long time ago at the behest of some Chinese friends, the advent of "The Hunger Games" coming to theaters sent me back to this classic Fukasaku pic. Far more vivid, imaginative, gruesome, and nuanced than the filmification of Collins' novel, "Battle Royale" does a great job at talking to a lot of the complexities of adolescence in a very raw manner.
Solid movie, if not hard to stomach visually.
