Review of Battle Royale (2000) by Thomas S — 27 Jun 2015
Tis the year 200 and Japanese youth are in revolt. To counteract them, the government has issued the BR law where a randomly selected class is sent out to a deserted island to kill each other. The last one standing gets to go home.
Oh Hunger Games, this is the film you were pretending to be. Uber violence takes hold as the classmates take out their petty school squabbles with a bit more of a murderous intent in mind.
The violence is very graphic and almost comically so at times. The classroom squabble dynamic is a fun touch though and the story pans out quite well. The ending however is a bit "huh?!" It marred the film from five stars, but blimey it was a fun ride along the way.
