Yes, it has a similar premise to Hunger Games, but it's pants-sh*ttingly boring for a hefty amount of its too-long running time. It also forgot to make its characters worth caring about. Let's not pretend like it was really the first film with this premise either.
The bottom line is that it just didn't tell its story as well as it could and should have.
