Review of Battle of the Sexes (2017) by Jon O — 24 Oct 2017
Much like the actual Battle of the the Sexes in 1973, the tennis match in "Battle of the Sexes" is the least compelling. Emma Stone is awesome and brave as Billie Jean King, the women's tennis superstar making peace with herself-- her sexuality.
Steve Carell as Bobby Riggs is too much caricature, then again Riggs was caricature and a major jerk. That is the failing of "Battle of the Sexes". The message comes together as Alan Cummings tells Stone's Billie Jean, "One day we will be free to be who we are.
.." Though clumsy at times, "Battle of the Sexes" touches in the end.
