Review of Battle: Los Angeles (2011) by Parker R — 30 Jun 2013
I just had the opportunity to rewatch Battle: Los Angeles, and no I didn't have to pay for it. However I feel compelled to throw my 2 cents in: it's not that bad. That may be Damning with faint praise, but given it's nearly unwatchable contemporaries like Skyline, and Battleship, BLA deserves a little credit.
Panned by critics pretty much across the board at the time of its release, BLA is worth a second watching. Yes there is a standard alien invasion story, and yes the script is lackluster, but there is no lack of good action and surprisingly good CGI/visual effects.
More than that, since the focus is on the people in the demolished rubble of LA trying to escape from the invading forces, it feels more like an alien laced Vietnam pic. Watch it on Netflix or rent it.
As a basic action sci-fi pic, you won't be disappointed.
