Review of Battle: Los Angeles (2011) by Halfwelshman — 14 Sep 2011
I'm not saying every blockbuster has to be original - let's face it, most aren't. But Battle: Los Angeles is beyond unoriginal, it's a cut-and-paste job of numerous far better movies, and it doesn't even try to hide it.
You can quite easily sit in front of this film with a checklist of movie cliches and tick them off as they fly past in quick succession. It's not an irredeemable action flick by any means - the effects are reasonable, the set pieces competent, and Aaron Eckhart growls through his lines like the best of elite military heroes.
With even a smidgen of originality, and more than a half-hearted attempt at character development, Battle: L.A. could have been a very fun, brainless thrill-ride. As it is, it's just brainless.
