Review of Battle in Seattle (2007) by Lesya M — 20 Sep 2008
[font=arial][size=-1] One thing that really sticks out about this film is how accurate it is. Stuart Townsend did a very good job of researching everything he did to give us all a very visual interpretation of the events.
Some may say that the character's suffer from not having enough backstory, but I say that I rather more plot, as he gave us, and not more slow moving scenes with us finding out who these people are. We are given enough to understand them, how they feel to sympathize with them all on some level, whether they are the cop, the Mayor, the protester, the innocent bystander, the reporter, or those involved with the WTO. And in turn for this, split between all scene of actions, the actors really give them their all.
Especially Michelle Rodriguez... I found her performance empowering with a role that she perfectly portrays a passionate protester, who is as vulnerable as she is tough. As well as Martin Henderson, who perfectly portrays a man willing to fight as hard as he can in trying to stop, at whatever cost he can give. Charlize Theron's performance, while very dramatic and gut wrenching, was rather dry. Most surprising is Andre Benjamin's performance, as another protest who looks on the brighter side of things, and keeps no matter what, even while in jail, shines just that little mirth needed to keep a good balance in this movie.
All in all... this was a well rounded movie for the serious viewer willing to overlook a few minor flaws to see the bigger picture of this film.
