Review of Battle in Seattle (2007) by Xx Tess X — 25 Sep 2008
A gripping look at the WTO protests/riots of 1999 (can you believe it's been almost a decade already?!), with fictional characters incorporated to humanize the real events...this movie is more relevent than ever, yikes.
:( It's still shocking how we human beings can treat each other in this day and age, and BiS strikes a dramatic contrast between democracy and corporate greed, nonviolent action and police-state brutality.
Excellent acting from all the various players too (including Andre 3000, who knew?), although the Charlize Theron/Woody Harrelson storyline was like the most obvious cliche ever...still, definitely a flick not to miss, especially if you're a progressive! Written and directed by Charlize's hubby Stuart Townsend, interestingly enough.
Had no idea he had skillz behind the camera.
