Review of Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) by James S — 24 Apr 2009
This is a movie that turned out better than it should have. No reason really existed for its creation, yet it was made. The movie uses much of the previous films for its driving force...mainly the opening sequence, the interviews with Cornelius (the father) and Zira, and the Hasslein theory of time (see the third movie for that).
With a fairly unimmaginative script and almost no budget, the producers and director managed to make a film with good pace and a somewhat believable plotline. This movie puts an end to the ape series (even though a live action series, a cartoon series, and a "remake" of the original.
..all not worth the time it takes to view them). It shows the actors at their best, and there may have never been one better than Roddy McDowall. Credit where credit is due...the crew and cast were able to make something out of almost nothing.
