Review of Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) by Jack H — 20 Aug 2011
10 years after the events taking place in Conquest of the planet of the apes things are looking better for the monkeys. They live in the forest with the humans as slaves or in some kind of serfdom with the possibility to earn their freedom if they behave., that's the general idea anyway.
In the city, now called the forbidden city there are remains of humans left. They have become radioactive mutants, and they have formed a fascist radoactive mutant society in the underground.
Well this movie in even more illogical than the previous episode in the apes saga but I do find it better as a movie.
What we get is kind of a Mad Max story. A futuristic dystopia with relics of mankind fighting the easygoing society of the apes.
We also get the tension between the chimpanzees and the gorillas with the clever orangutans on the side vividly explored.
As always everything's about racism and fascism and the fact that there is always hope. Somewhere.
