Review of Battle for Haditha (2007) by H-P K — 21 Sep 2008
Broomfield is known for his documentaries (and I was actually expecting this one to be one as well), and his stab at a narrative film falls awkwardly between fact and fiction. Having real war vets play American soldiers and real Iraqis play the Iraqis adds a level of rough realism, but also means that the level of acting is substandard, which in turn makes the film less effective.
An important subject and a pretty bi-partisan (if at times patronizing) execution, but since it's neiother a document nor a "real" film, I didn't like it.
