Review of Battle for Haditha (2007) by Alexandre A — 02 Oct 2008
I saw this film last tuesday with a group of my friends. We all took turns ripping, shredding, demolishing the film, because that's easy. It's easy, especially when the director takes that many risks and his end result reflects the fact that he wanted to try something completely different while, and here's the clincher, WHILE talking down to his audience.
Broomfield comes from a long line of documentary productions, He's used to letting reality tell the story. With Haditha he wanted to continue that tradition and bring it into fiction, except he forgot, or simply avoided the fact that you don't preach.
You don't blindside, and you don't stuff the audience with moral and messages like your making foie gras for christmas.
